The 2010 Camaro
In the fast moving world of today's automobile business, you are only as good as you are today; yesterday is a distant memory and tomorrow, well, that's something we'll worry about, well, tomorrow.

The Chevrolet Camaro is a prime example of that adage. In it's debut in 1966 as a '67 model, the Camaro was a masterpiece of styling, mixing Mustang's 2 door sedan and fastback into a single bodystyle with a clean, uncluttered look. But tomorrow was around the corner and after successive moderate restyles, 1970 popped up with a brand new car. Comparisons between the first and generation cars and which was the best were heated in 1970 and just as heated today.

1st Gen - 1967 Camaro RS Convertible

The second generation cars hung around 12 long years and were met with tremendous revisions in both Government regulations as well as consumer preferences. Camaro was lucky to survive this era and when it came time to hand over the torch to the 3rd Gen cars, some felt all was lost. A four cylinder Camaro? Who was kidding who?

2nd Gen -1978 Camaro Z28

It turns out the engineers were busy trying to relight the torch of excitement as they were in possession of a well sorted chassis with lots of potential, not to mention the eye candy and the name Camaro. When production of the the 3rd Gens ended in 1992, Camaro was better than most will ever give it credit for. Here was a bonifide 150mph sports coupe with road manners to match.

3rd Gen - 1989 Camaro IROC-Z Convertible

Borrowing heavily the structure of the third Gen, the 1993 represented a new era of Camaro, and with it what was thought to be the end of the line. On the 4th Gen, plastic replaced steel for many of the body panels, and L98 (B2L) was superseeded first by LT1 power, then by the now legendary LS1. At the end of the run, 320 net horsepower was now yours for the ordering.

While the 4th Gen cars were regarded as the best performing Camaro's ever, the American buying public turned it's nose up at the whole Camaro (and sister Firebird) genre. After the 2002 model year, the factory was boarded up and the Camaro nameplate banished from the Chevrolet lineup. Thirty-Five years and this was all the thanks?

4th Gen - 1997 Camaro SS

For the past six years, Camaro has been a distant memory. A bright blinding light was offered in January of 2006 at the North American International Auto Show (aka Detroit Auto Show) in the form of a brand new Camaro. A brand new Camaro! This one was great as it brought a supposed 400hp 6.0L V8 straight out of the Corvette. There was an all independent suspension system and exterior and interior styling that looked like it was 1969 all over again.

Response was so overwhelming from the pubilc reactions that the obvious happened; Chevrolet announced on August 10, 2006, there was going to be a new Camaro. Chevrolet knew they had a winner on it's hands, so in 2007, the Detroit Auto Show played host to yet another Camaro variation, this time as a Convertible. We knew the new Camaro had to be just around the corner so all we had to do was wait a little bit. And wait. And wait.

The wait is almost over.

All-New 5th Gen Camaro LT/RS

On July 21, 2008, GM did some polital maneuvering by showing a production ready version of the 2010 Camaro to it's dealer's via satellite and webcasts for media and general viewing. During the telecast, viewer got the first unencumbered views of the car sans camoflauge and interior data recording hardware.

The differences between the concept cars and the actual production examples are minor, but expected. Here's my take on the 2010 Camaro.
